About Us

Extra Lesson ® was first developed over 40 years ago by Audrey McAllen from her observations and research as a teacher of Steiner education in the UK. Extra Lesson is an educational program based on an understanding of sensory processing and the natural stages of childhood development. It has become internationally known as a successful intervention for students, who have learning and behavioural difficulties. Many Extra Lesson practitioners in Australia, New Zealand and Asia are in private practice.

The Asia Pacific Extra Lesson Association represents Extra Lesson Practitioners from across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. There are approximately 60 members whose contact details are available on this site. The Association was established in 1993 to provide on-going professional development for Extra Lesson Practitioners and to form a support network for communication and promotion of our work.

In 2009, the Asia Pacific Extra Lesson Association held the first International conference in Sydney, Australia. It was attended by over 100 people and provided a platform for continuing to inform a wider audience of the work done by Extra Lesson practitioners.

Keep your eye out for details of future international or regional conferences listed on this website.
